Indians say good year, I mean good bye

Well it finally happened the Tribe is gone. Except for a few minor leaguers running around the Chain Of lakes park it's all over. Last one out please turn off the lights.

It was a great run as we seen the Indians come in as pretenders and leave as contenders. Great players, great plays, great memories. I wish them well but then again I hope it rains all of March in Good Year next year! The city and the team leaders could have worked out a plan to keep the Indians, if not baseball, in Winter Haven. I think that they will both miss each other. Winter Haven provided a loyal consistent following. The trek from Cleveland was easier than what is ahead of any fan that may drive to Arizona. The city stated they lost money with baseball but yet Good Year put up 77 million dollars to get the Tribe and then another 33 million to entice the Reds to come to town. Prior to coming to Winter Haven the Indians were in Tucson for many years. Hm mm, I guess they know something that the politicians in Winter Haven don't know.

It will be interesting to see what happens in our town. I'm guessing that Cypress Garden will close and become some sort of development in 3 to 5 years. What will replace the Garden as well as major league baseball as a draw to visit the city? Winter haven is a great little town  but it will need to reevaluate its status as there will be no compelling reason for a traveler  to put on their turn signal and exit off route 4 to visit. Too bad as  many baseball fans came to know the beauty of the city.

You all come back now, ya hear!

My son goes to Africa to help. Can you help?
My son, Kevin will be taking three months of his life and dedicating it to traveling to Africa in hopes of bringing at least a little hope to those who have none. He will be helping orphans, parents and really anyone in need. He will work with doctors and medical teams to dispense antibiotics, as a laborer tearing down old out dated and unsafe buildings to help start new ones, showing support, reading the Bible to children, as well as assisting in many other projects.

These people are badly in need of these services and support.

Kevin is seeking your help with any type of donation to help defray his expenses for such an endeavor. He is not being paid or compensated for any of his costs.

Kevin has performed related work in local soup kitchens, food shelters and went to help those devastated by the disaster of hurricane Katrina.

If you can find it in your heart to offer any assistance whether in donations and/or prayers for a safe trip, he would deeply appreciate it. Any donations are tax deductible through the sponsoring church and Kevin can give you details. Kevin can be reached on his cell phone at 440 479-1527. Even if you can't help with a donation why not give him a call of encouragement. I'm sure that he would appreciate it.

A proud father say thanks in advance.

Cypress Gardens WOW !!!!

We just visited Cypress Gardens for the first time since coming down to Winter Haven for over 14 years. I wish that we would have visited sooner. From now on EVERY trip will have a required stop at this beautiful park. It's simply amazing. If you visit make sure that you bring a camera and plenty of film as the Gardens are candy for the eye ! The park has something for every family member, rides, food, shows, skiing and ice skating, gardens galore, little cozy shops, concerts and much much more. Plus when you leave you can exchange your ticket for another free entry within a 7 day period. All of this for only 39.95 ! Like I said WOW!!!! Anybody else been there?

Is the game over ?
Well, it looks like the Tribe is going to Arizona for the 2009 season. It's pretty much all but done. It would take a decision from the state of Arizona to change it at this point. I'm confused as I don't believe that the Indians owners realize the following that they had in Winter Haven. I don't see a lot of fans taking the trek West. But we will see...It ain't over till its over. I'm still holding out hope that the fans have a chance here for another team as baseball has been a part of Winter Havens heritage for decades.
