Well it finally happened the Tribe is gone. Except for a few minor leaguers running around the Chain Of lakes park it's all over. Last one out please turn off the lights.
It was a great run as we seen the Indians come in as pretenders and leave as contenders. Great players, great plays, great memories. I wish them well but then again I hope it rains all of March in Good Year next year! The city and the team leaders could have worked out a plan to keep the Indians, if not baseball, in Winter Haven. I think that they will both miss each other. Winter Haven provided a loyal consistent following. The trek from Cleveland was easier than what is ahead of any fan that may drive to Arizona. The city stated they lost money with baseball but yet Good Year put up 77 million dollars to get the Tribe and then another 33 million to entice the Reds to come to town. Prior to coming to Winter Haven the Indians were in Tucson for many years. Hm mm, I guess they know something that the politicians in Winter Haven don't know.
It will be interesting to see what happens in our town. I'm guessing that Cypress Garden will close and become some sort of development in 3 to 5 years. What will replace the Garden as well as major league baseball as a draw to visit the city? Winter haven is a great little town but it will need to reevaluate its status as there will be no compelling reason for a traveler to put on their turn signal and exit off route 4 to visit. Too bad as many baseball fans came to know the beauty of the city.
You all come back now, ya hear!
